Finally! A break in the heat and humidity has me feeling like fall is actually here.

With the changing season I find my life is changing to. Days previously spent freelancing and blogging are being replaced with days as a production artist on the Hallmark campus here in Kansas City. Although my office is casual and creative, it's still important for me to dress with a modicum of decorum. A laidback professional approach to getting dressed every morning is spot on and my favorite building block a BLACK PANT. Loose, fitted, cropped, long, denim, cotton, wool; doesn't matter, dark black pants are a great base for building a casual, yet office appropriate, look.

The latest in my collection of black pants is J Crew's Billie Demi-Boot Crop Jean. Cropped and flared with a super fitted and slightly high rise, they're flattering with flats, pumps, or boots and any number of shirt combinations. I like to keep my office style simple and understated so I paired these today with a sleeveless sweater and matching leather boots - both in my favorite seasonal color of RUST. To satisfy the need for a 'third piece', I've added a contrasting silk scarf in an classic foulard print. (Not familiar with the third-piece rule? Read up on it HERE.)

Seriously. Office dressing is easy when you start with black pants. And yes, you need another pair. I NEED ANOTHER PAIR!
