In addition to being on-trend and wallet-friendly, this suede 'dress' from Forever 21 is proving to be an amazingly versatile piece for the remaining days of winter and the almost-here days of spring. Because suede is sooo hard to clean (Cindy Mancini first demonstrated this lesson in Can't Buy me Love) and I'm certain to spill on myself, I'm deeply appreciately for the retailers anti-anxiety inducing genuine leather offerings. Do beware; true to some of the website reviews, the snap buttons have been a little loose, but I was able to reinforce them with a little superglue and a vise-grip in just a few minutes. Perhaps my continual wearing of it has caused some stress on the closures, yes? But let me say again, for being so trendy, this suede shirtdress is actually quite versatile for regular everyday dressing.
Here's how I'm doin' it>>>>>>>
AS A SHIRT
I love the hips and rear coverage a tunic gives me. Forever 21 markets this piece and a 'shirtdress', but I'm way too tall to attempt that, so it actually works on my 5'11" frame as fabulous tunic length 'shirt'. My flares and boots get a little more interesting when paired with the rich texture and color of tobacco suede. A lightweat scarf adds some interest when peeking out from under and circle sunnies play up the retro feel of the Seventies style buckskin.
AS A LAYERING PIECE
The weather is still pretty iffy here and I've been standing up to freezing temps by using this suede shirtdress and a layering piece over lightweight sweaters. I like to keep it sleek and modern by opting for jet black skinnies and a sturdy black boot. A wool coat in the same color family makes for a nice caramel sundae of warmth and style. Just look at all those burnt sienna tones!
AS A LIGHT JACKET
But alas, spring will come and I'll be ready. I love this suede shirtdress worn open like a jacket over cropped flares and strappy ballet flats. Even though there isn't a pastel in sight, it still feels fresh and light and perfect for warming spring days. And yes, definitely pair it with a vintage neckerchief for spreme on-trend-ness.
It's been a while since my last post... The change of address and the new responsibilities of being a homeowner have shifted my perpective on clothing (and blogging) a little bit and it's definitely been for the best. A friend had remarked how low-key I am in person and that my fashion-ing doesn't always reflect it. It was kind of a light-bulb moment and I realized I could be happier as a blogger (and person) if I honestly share my day to day outfits instead of just 'creating content'. I'm posting these photos and thoughts about this suede shirt because I REALLY HAVE BEEN LIVING IN IT! This is my re-commitment to sharing my realest low-key self on these pages. Fuck it if I'm not cool enough. Thanks for coming. xo
